Concept note-1: -Moreover, the proclamation announced the acceptance of black men into the Union army and navy, enabling the liberated to become liberators.

Concept note-2: -President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, as the nation approached its third year of bloody civil war. The proclamation declared “that all persons held as slaves” within the rebellious states “are, and henceforward shall be free."

Concept note-3: -In the fall of 1862, President Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865) gave the Confederacy an ultimatum: return to the Union with slavery intact, or come January 1, 1863, he would free the slaves in the Confederate states.

Concept note-4: -Keep [that force] and you can save the Union. Throw it away, and the Union goes with it.” Lincoln used his authority as Commander in Chief under the U.S. Constitution to issue the Emancipation Proclamation, which took effect on January 1, 1863. He stated the military necessity of his action.
