Concept note-1: -The 642, 427 total Union casualties have been divided accordingly: 110, 100 killed in battle. 224, 580 diseases. 275, 174 wounded in action.

Concept note-2: -The Battle of Gettysburg marked the turning point of the Civil War. With more than 50, 000 estimated casualties, the three-day engagement was the bloodiest single battle of the conflict.

Concept note-3: -By far the most costly war in terms of human life was World War II (1939–45), in which the total number of fatalities, including battle deaths and civilians of all countries, is estimated to have been 56.4 million, assuming 26.6 million Soviet fatalities and 7.8 million Chinese civilians were killed.

Concept note-4: -Of the Union states, New York has the highest number of military deaths of approximately 39, 000, followed by Ohio and Illinois with about 31, 000 each. California and Colorado had the lowest number of deaths of any state, given their location to the war’s battles.
