Concept note-1: -The war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris on December 10, 1898. As a result Spain lost its control over the remains of its overseas empire–Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Philippines Islands, Guam, and other islands.

Concept note-2: -The Treaty of Paris ending the Spanish-American War was signed on December 10, 1898. In it, Spain renounced all claim to Cuba, ceded Guam and Puerto Rico to the United States and transferred sovereignty over the Philippines to the United States for $20 million.

Concept note-3: -The McKinley Administration also used the war as a pretext to annex the independent state of Hawaii.

Concept note-4: -As a result of the war, the United States acquired Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines as territories.
