EXPLANATIONS BELOW
Concept note-1: -The United States never joined the League. Most historians hold that the League operated much less effectively without U.S. participation than it would have otherwise. However, even while rejecting membership, the Republican Presidents of the period, and their foreign policy architects, agreed with many of its goals.
Concept note-2: -The League of Nations was established at the end of World War I as an international peacekeeping organization. Although US President Woodrow Wilson was an enthusiastic proponent of the League, the United States did not officially join the League of Nations due to opposition from isolationists in Congress.
Concept note-3: -In 1920, Woodrow Wilson was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for conceptualizing and helping to form an organization that the United States never joined-the League of Nations.
Concept note-4: -Even though the American president at the time, Woodrow Wilson, thought they should join in world affairs to try and create peace, the Americans felt that they did not want the U.S to be apart of yet another European conflict that could create another war especially after the destruction and cost of World War One.
Concept note-5: -Despite Wilson’s efforts to establish and promote the League, for which he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in October 1919, the United States never joined. Senate Republicans led by Henry Cabot Lodge wanted a League with the reservation that only Congress could take the U.S. into war.
