The Big Stick policy and Dollar Diplomacy were attempts to

Concept note-1: -A Big Stick Latin Americans did not look upon the corollary favorably. They resented U.S. involvement as Yankee imperialism, and animosity against their large neighbor to the North grew dramatically.

Concept note-2: -While the U.S. had good intentions concerning the creation of Dollar Diplomacy as a foreign policy, Dollar Diplomacy confronted nationalist beliefs in Latin American countries. These countries were uneasy about inordinate foreign influences and this sentiment became the spark for antagonism towards the U.S. policy.

Concept note-3: -Dollar Diplomacy sought to bolster the struggling economies of Latin American and East Asian countries while also expanding U.S. commercial interests in those regions. U.S. interference in Nicaragua, China, and Mexico in order to protect American interests are examples of dollar diplomacy in action.

Concept note-4: -President Theodore Roosevelt’s assertive approach to Latin America and the Caribbean has often been characterized as the “Big Stick, ” and his policy came to be known as the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine.
