Concept note-1: -Secretary of State John Hay first articulated the concept of the “Open Door” in China in a series of notes in 1899–1900.
Concept note-2: -President McKinley and Secretary Hay favored this idea of an “Open Door” to ensure that the American economic position was protected; to avoid a great-power scramble to partition China outright; and to distinguish the United States from what the Americans regarded as more aggressive and self-interested nations.
