EXPLANATIONS BELOW

Concept note-1: -Imperialism adversely affected the colonies. Under foreign rule, native culture and industry were destroyed. Imported goods wiped out local craft industries. By using colonies as sources of raw materials and markets for manufactured goods, colonial powers held back the colonies from developing industries.

Concept note-2: -Imperialism arose out of a complex mixture of political, economic, and social forces, although historians do not agree on which influences were most dominant. Industrial revolution had increased demand for raw materials – iron, coal, manganese, tungsten (steel alloys), copper (electricity), rubber (variety of uses).

Concept note-3: -Imperialism had consequences that affected the colonial nations, Europe, and the world. It also led to increased competition among nations and to conflicts that would disturb the peace of the world in 1914.
