Concept note-1: -In the east, Poland was resurrected, given most of formerly German West Prussia and Poznań (Posen), given a “corridor” to the Baltic Sea (which separated East Prussia from the rest of Germany), and given part of Upper Silesia after a plebiscite. Gdańsk (Danzig) was declared a free city.

Concept note-2: -1921: The Treaty of Versailles forced Germany to surrender its hold on the city of Danzig, which came under League of Nations control. Two of Germany’s eastern provinces, Posen and West Prussia, were ceded to Poland.

Concept note-3: -Germany accepted responsibility for the war and lost 68, 000 km² of territory, including Alsace and Lorraine, which had been annexed in 1870, and 8 million inhabitants.

Concept note-4: -Treaty of Versailles Terms The “Big Four” leaders of the victorious Western nations-Wilson of the United States, David Lloyd George of Great Britain, Georges Clemenceau of France and, to a lesser extent, Vittorio Orlando of Italy-dominated the peace negotiations in Paris.
