Concept note-1: -The M-A-I-N acronym – militarism, alliances, imperialism and nationalism – is often used to analyse the war, and each of these reasons are cited to be the 4 main causes of World War One.

Concept note-2: -M.A.N.I.A. The five major causes of “The Great War” or WWI can be explained using the acronym M.A.N.I.A. Those causes are Militarism, Alliances, Nationalism, Imperialism, and Assassination.

Concept note-3: -The immediate cause of World War I that made the aforementioned items come into play (alliances, imperialism, militarism, nationalism) was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary. In June 1914, a Serbian-nationalist terrorist group called the Black Hand sent groups to assassinate the Archduke.
