Concept note-2: -It’s all so cozy and precious… In fact, when Sophie was shot alongside Franz Ferdinand in 1914, these were his last words to her, as published in “Archduke of Sarajevo”: “Sopherl, Sopherl, don’t die. Stay alive for the children!”
Concept note-3: -The children were sent to live in Arstetten Castle. The eldest, Sophie, was 17 at the time. She lived until 1990 and Princess von Hohenberg remembers her stories.
Concept note-4: -Their luck ran out later that day, however, when their driver inadvertently drove them past 19-year-old Serbian nationalist Gavrilo Princip who shot and killed Franz Ferdinand and his wife at point-blank range. Austria-Hungary was furious and, with Germany’s support, declared war on Serbia on July 28.
