Concept note-1: -Addthis Share Tools. As the U.S. military recruited young men for service, civilians were called upon to do their part by buying War bonds, donating to charity, or, if they worked in industry, going that extra mile for the troops.

Concept note-2: -However, most of America’s wartime spending was funded by war bonds. Like savings bonds, war bonds provided purchasers with a guaranteed return at a future date. The government promoted its “Liberty Bonds” with a nationwide campaign calling on the public’s patriotism.

Concept note-3: -The Liberty Loan Act allowed the federal government to sell liberty bonds to the American public, extolling citizens to “do their part” to help the war effort and bring the troops home.

Concept note-4: -Many Americans supported the war effort by purchasing war bonds. Women replaced men in sports leagues, orchestras and community institutions. Americans grew 60% of the produce they consumed in “Victory Gardens”. The war effort on the United States Home Front was a total effort.
