Concept note-1: -However Austrian historian Stefan Karner maintains that Soviet era documents indicate that 2.6 million prisoners were taken by the Soviets including 400, 000 civilians.

Concept note-2: -Members of the German military were interned as prisoners of war in the United States during World War I and World War II. In all, 425, 000 German prisoners lived in 700 camps throughout the United States during World War II.

Concept note-3: -The situation of World War I prisoners of war in Germany is an aspect of the conflict little covered by historical research. However, the number of soldiers imprisoned reached a little over seven million for all the belligerents, of whom around 2, 400, 000 were held by Germany.
