EXPLANATIONS BELOW

Concept note-1: -Emperor Haile Selassie, who was in Geneva at the time, went to the Assembly and asked for help, but to no avail; the League refused to act and most member countries recognized the Italian conquest.

Concept note-2: -In response to Ethiopian appeals, the League of Nations condemned the Italian invasion in 1935 and voted to impose economic sanctions on the aggressor. The sanctions remained ineffective because of general lack of support.

Concept note-3: -The late Emperor of Ethiopia, His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I (1892-1975), may be known for his emotionally charged appeal to the League of Nations in June 1936, but his legacy goes far beyond this one speech.
