Concept note-1: -The League was formally disbanded on April 19, 1946; its powers and functions had been transferred to the nascent United Nations.
Concept note-2: -As of 20 April 1946, the League of Nations ceased to exist, having handed over all of its assets to the United Nations, and having granted the new UN Secretariat full control of its Library and archives.
Concept note-3: -The main organization ceased operations on 20 April 1946 but many of its components were relocated into the new United Nations.
Concept note-4: -The UN replaced the ineffective League of Nations, which had failed to prevent the outbreak of the Second World War. The UN was established on October 24, 1945, with headquarters in Manhattan, New York City, and reflected the rise of the United States to global leadership in the postwar period.
