EXPLANATIONS BELOW
Concept note-1: -Germany was not allowed to join the League in 1919. As Germany had started the war, according to the Treaty of Versailles, one of her punishments was that she was not considered to be a member of the international community and, therefore, she was not invited to join.
Concept note-2: -Why were the German people not prepared to accept the harsh peace terms of the Versailles Treaty? The German press did not accurately report the course of the war. They believed the war had been closer to a draw. Also, little of the war had been fought on German soil.
Concept note-3: -A “dictated peace?” The newly formed German democratic government saw the Versailles Treaty as a “dictated peace” (Diktat). The war guilt clause, huge reparation payments, and limitations on the German military seemed particularly oppressive to most Germans.
Concept note-4: -With the reunification of Germany on 3 October 1990, Berlin was reinstated as the capital city of united Germany and the Länder of the former German Democratic Republic joined the Federal Republic of Germany in its membership of NATO.
