EXPLANATIONS BELOW

Concept note-1: -In a series of decisions spanning more than two decades, the court concluded in the Insular Cases that these new members of the American landscape did not possess rights that US citizens take for granted. This included the right to vote and representation in the federal government.

Concept note-2: -The Insular Cases are a line of Supreme Court cases from 1901 to 1922 that limit the extension of constitutional rights to certain U.S. territories.

Concept note-3: -’ These cases authorized the colonial regime created by Con-gress, which allowed the United States to continue its administration-and ex-ploitation-of the territories acquired from Spain after the Spanish-American War of 1898.

Concept note-4: -What did the Supreme Court rule on the Insular Cases? They ruled that full constitutional rights did not automatically extend to all areas under American control.
