Concept note-1: -Therefore, in January 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt established the War Production Board, whose role included allocating resources such as steel, aluminum and rubber. As a result, citizens participated in scrap drives to collect materials for the war effort.

Concept note-2: -During World War II scrap drives were a popular way for everyone to contribute to the war effort. By recycling unused or unwanted metal for example, the government could build ships, airplanes and other equipment needed to fight the war.

Concept note-3: -These items included products made out of rubber and most types of metal, kitchen fat, newspapers, and rags, among other items.

Concept note-4: -This was a monumental event as rubber was not only needed by the booming United States’ automobile industry to make tires, but also by the military to produce gas masks, bombers, and tanks.

Concept note-5: -During World War II, metals were needed for military purposes. Ships and planes and jeeps and guns and ration tins and helmets took precedence over civilian products.
