Concept note-1: -What did the Manhattan Project do? The Manhattan Project produced the first atomic bomb. Several lines of research were pursued simultaneously. Both electromagnetic and fusion methods of separating the fissionable uranium-235 from uranium-238 were explored at Oak Ridge in Tennessee.

Concept note-2: -President Truman authorized the use of the atom bombs in an effort to bring about Japan’s surrender in the Second World War. In the days following the bombings Japan surrendered. The Manhattan Project was the US government program during World War II that developed and built these first atomic bombs.

Concept note-3: -Far away from public sight, the most consequential scientific innovation during World War II was the creation of the atomic bomb through the top-secret Manhattan Project.

Concept note-4: -The first atomic bomb was built in Los Alamos, New Mexico, during World War II under a program called the Manhattan Project. Los Alamos was approved as the site for the main atomic bomb scientific laboratory on November 25, 1942, by Brig. Gen. Leslie R.
