EXPLANATIONS BELOW

Concept note-1: -Building on several treaties that had ended World War I (notably the Treaty of Versailles [1919] between the Allies and Germany), the Protocol specifically prohibited the use in war of asphyxiating, poisonous, or other gases and bacteriological weapons.

Concept note-2: -projectiles were not yet in practical use or fully developed. Versailles-the peace treaty with Germany-therefore made clear that the use, manufacture, or importation of “asphyxiating, poisonous or othier gases” by Germany was prohibited.

Concept note-3: -The Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) effectively prohibits the development, production, acquisition, transfer, stockpiling and use of biological and toxin weapons. It was the first multilateral disarmament treaty banning an entire category of weapons of mass destruction (WMD).

Concept note-4: -The Geneva Protocol The 1925 Protocol for the Prohibition of the Use of Asphyxiating, Poisonous or Other Gases, and of Bacteriological Methods of Warfare, commonly known as the 1925 Geneva Protocol, bans the use of chemical and bacteriological (biological) weapons in war.

Concept note-5: -The international community banned the use of chemical and biological weapons after World War 1 and reinforced the ban in 1972 and 1993 by prohibiting their development, stockpiling and transfer.
