Concept note-1: -After becoming president in 1901, Roosevelt used his authority to establish 150 national forests, 51 federal bird reserves, four national game preserves, five national parks and 18 national monuments on over 230 million acres of public land. Today, the legacy of Theodore Roosevelt is found across the country.

Concept note-2: -The conservation legacy of Theodore Roosevelt is found in the 230 million acres of public lands he helped establish during his presidency. Much of that land-150 millions acres-was set aside as national forests.

Concept note-3: -Theodore Roosevelt, often called “the conservation president, ” impacted the National Park System well beyond his term in office. He doubled the number of sites within the National Park system.

Concept note-4: -As president, Roosevelt created five national parks, 18 national monuments, 51 bird sanctuaries, began the National Wildlife Refuge system and set aside more than 100 million acres for national forests.

Concept note-5: -On November 10, 1978, the area was given national park status when President Carter signed Public Law 95-625 that changed the memorial park to Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
