Concept note-1: -Total war is a type of warfare that includes any and all civilian-associated resources and infrastructure as legitimate military targets, mobilizes all of the resources of society to fight the war, and gives priority to warfare over non-combatant needs.
Concept note-2: -"Total war” includes four things: Mobilization, refusal to compromise, the blurring of roles between soldier and civilians, and total control of society.
Concept note-3: -World War I became a total war, a war involving a complete mobilizationof resources and people. The war affected all of the citizens in the warring coun-tries. As a result of the war effort, there was an increase in government powers and in the use of propaganda.
Concept note-4: -The First World War destroyed empires, created numerous new nation-states, encouraged independence movements in Europe’s colonies, forced the United States to become a world power and led directly to Soviet communism and the rise of Hitler.
