Concept note-1: -Propaganda is the dissemination of information-facts, arguments, rumours, half-truths, or lies-to influence public opinion. Deliberateness and a relatively heavy emphasis on manipulation distinguish propaganda from casual conversation or the free and easy exchange of ideas.

Concept note-2: -Purpose of propaganda. The aim of propaganda is to influence people’s opinions or behaviors actively, rather than merely to communicate the facts about something.

Concept note-3: -The term “propaganda” apparently first came into common use in Europe as a result of the missionary activities of the Catholic church. In 1622 Pope Gregory XV created in Rome the Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith.

Concept note-4: -Lying and deception can be the basis of many propaganda techniques including Ad Hominem arguments, Big-Lie, Defamation, Door-in-the-Face, Half-truth, Name-calling or any other technique that is based on dishonesty or deception.
