Concept note-1: -In December 1941 Japan attacked the United States at Pearl Harbor, Hawai’i, causing the U.S. to enter World War II. Over two years would pass until the Allies reached their great turning point in the Pacific War: the defeat of the Japanese at Guadalcanal in February 1943.
Concept note-2: -It was the first time that Allied forces were able to make headway in the Pacific. In August 1945, the United States dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. As a result, approximately 120, 000 civilians died. Japan formally surrendered in September 1945.
Concept note-3: -December 7, 1941: A Day That Will Live in Infamy The most devastating strike came at Pearl Harbor, the Hawaiian naval base where much of the US Pacific Fleet was moored. In a two-hour attack, Japanese warplanes sank or damaged 18 warships and destroyed 164 aircraft. Over 2, 400 servicemen and civilians lost their lives.
