Concept note-1: -Absolute monarchy in Europe declined substantially following the French Revolution and World War I, both of which led to the popularization of theories of government based on the notion of popular sovereignty.
Concept note-2: -Republicanism became more prevalent in the Early Modern period, but monarchy remained predominant in Europe during the 19th century. Since the end of World War I, however, most European monarchies have been abolished. There remain, as of 2023, twelve sovereign monarchies in Europe.
Concept note-3: -Citizens take over the palaceThe end of the monarchy On November 9, 1918, the republic was proclaimed, including in Baden and Württemberg. The monarchies abdicated and democracy began in Germany. At the same time, many residential palaces were turned into museums and public spaces.
Concept note-4: -The Glorious Revolution (1688–89) permanently established Parliament as the ruling power of England-and, later, the United Kingdom-representing a shift from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy.
