Concept note-1: -The Salt March, which took place from March to April 1930 in India, was an act of civil disobedience led by Mohandas Gandhi to protest British rule in India.

Concept note-2: -The march on the saltworks went ahead as planned on May 21, led by the poet Sarojini Naidu, and many of the some 2, 500 peaceful marchers were attacked and beaten by police.

Concept note-3: -Gandhi during the salt march, March 1930. In 1930, Gandhi famously led a march to the sea to collect salt (which Indians were banned from producing), forcing the British Raj into a classic decision dilemma and paving the way for Indian independence.

Concept note-4: -➢ In 1930, Gandhiji declared that he would lead a march to break the salt law. According to this law, the state had a monopoly on the manufacture and sale of salt. Mahatma Gandhi along with other nationalists reasoned that it was sinful to tax salt since it is such an essential item of our food.

Concept note-5: -The Dandi March or the Salt March was done in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad state’s coastal area; this March was done against the British’s steep tax levied on salt. This was a significant March known as Dandi March or Salt March and referred to as Salt Satyagraha. This March was non-violent and historically significant.
