AMERICAN IMPERIALISM(1890 1919)
TREATY OF VERSAILLES[SOURCES]
(A) Germany gave up territory in Europe
(B) Germany gave up overseas colonies
(C) ** The Russian government became Communist
(D) The German military strength was significantly reduced
Concept note-1: -It lifted a large financial burden from the new Bolshevik government. It also removed the sting of the humiliation of the Brest-Litovsk Treaty. Finally, the eradication of the early treaty through the Treaty of Versailles allowed Russia the opportunity to move west and try to reclaim its ceded territory.
Concept note-2: -Germany and the other defeated powers-Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria and Turkey-were not represented at the Paris Peace Conference.
Concept note-3: -The Treaty of Versailles is one of the most controversial armistice treaties in history. The treaty’s so-called “war guilt” clause forced Germany and other Central Powers to take all the blame for World War I. This meant a loss of territories, reduction in military forces, and reparation payments to Allied powers.
