Concept note-1: -Clinton was elected president in the 1992 presidential election, defeating incumbent Republican president George H. W. Bush and independent businessman Ross Perot. At 46 years old, he became the third-youngest president of the United States and the first president to be born in the Baby Boomer generation.
Concept note-2: -Clinton won, defeating Purcell by almost 7.4% of the popular vote. Even after Clinton’s victory, Purcell refused to endorse him for the general election.
Concept note-3: -Clinton’s second term saw the first federal budget surpluses since the 1960s, but was partially overshadowed by his impeachment in 1998. His impeachment arose after he denied having an affair with a White House intern, Monica Lewinsky under oath and telling Lewinsky to do the same.
