Concept note-1: -9, 2022. The U.S. announced Sunday that it’s giving $9 million in new military aid to help Somalia’s ongoing campaign against al-Shabab militants. It’s the first such direct military support since U.S. forces returned to Somalia and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud announced an “all-out war” against the militants.

Concept note-2: -The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has played a major role in the significant scale-up of humanitarian assistance in Somalia. Over the last six months, the U.N. World Food Programme has expanded its lifesaving assistance to reach a record number of people in Somalia – including those in hard-to-reach areas.

Concept note-3: -With USAID/BHA support, the UN World Food Program (WFP) continued its emergency food and nutrition operations to respond to severe acute food insecurity and malnutrition outcomes in conflict-and drought-affected areas of the country in 2022.

Concept note-4: -Funds announced in July and August 2022 will be used to procure U.S. food commodities to bolster existing emergency food operations in countries facing severe food insecurity. Resources will be delivered to:: Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, and Sudan.
