Concept note-1: -Rosie the Riveter, media icon associated with female defense workers during World War II. Since the 1940s Rosie the Riveter has stood as a symbol for women in the workforce and for women’s independence.

Concept note-2: -Rosie the Riveter came to be a symbol of all women working in the war industries during World War II. After the release of the song inspired by Rosalind, the image of Rosie the Riveter became further cemented in the public imagination in large part due to the circulation of illustrations and propaganda.

Concept note-3: -In line with the “Rosie the Riveter” image, women were recruited to step into jobs in production lines supporting the war so the men could fight. Recruiting campaigns during the war urged women to enter the workforce as part of a patriotic duty to their country.
